This 6-week developers throwing course is designed for potters with some experience who want dedicated time to expand, refine, and push their wheel-throwing skills. Working at a focused but supportive pace, the course builds confidence with larger amounts of clay, more complex forms, and improved finishing techniques.

Each week introduces a new technical focus, with demonstrations, guided practice, and plenty of wheel time. You’ll revisit core skills with larger clay quantities, before progressing into closed forms, lidded pieces, split-rim forms, and advanced trimming. The final week is self-led, allowing you to consolidate your learning and develop your own ideas with tutor support.

This course is ideal if you’re comfortable on the wheel and ready to challenge yourself, improve consistency, and expand your throwing vocabulary.

Skill Requirements

• Able to centre clay up to 500g
• Able to pull walls independently

What You’ll Learn

• Throwing and centring larger amounts of clay (600g+) with confidence

• Creating clean, consistent cylinders with even walls

• Improving height, form, and refinement

• Collaring and shaping closed forms

• Making lidded pots and well-fitting lids

• Exploring split-rim forms

• Trimming techniques, including trimming with a chuck

• Developing self-led work using design and process

Can’t make a session?
I completely understand that things come up — but as this is a small group course with set dates, I’m not able to offer replacements or reschedules for missed sessions. The course is designed to be flexible, and missing the odd session won’t stop you from getting a lot out of it. If you'd like to catch up on anything specific, you're always welcome to book a 1:1 session separately!
